Delivery of USAF VR Deicer Trainer

SimiGon successfully delivers Virtual Reality simulation-based training for USAF De-icing technicians

SimiGon (LSE: SIM), a global leader in modelling, simulation, and training solutions, is pleased to announce the successful delivery of the SIMbox Virtual Reality Aircraft De-icing Simulator (SVADS) to the United States Air Force (published October 11, 2020).

As part of the Contract with the United States Air Force (USAF), SimiGon provided its Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) SVADS. This is comprised of SimiGon’s baseline SIMbox software, SIMbox aircraft deicing simulation module and relevant hardware to the respective USAF maintenance squadron. The fully immersive VR environment coupled with the deicing simulation module provides USAF deicer technicians advanced training, including scoring, Playback/After Action Review, feedback reports, and multi-player training.

Aircraft de-icing is a necessary task requiring annual training by military and commercial personnel working in cold weather aviation. Ice adds a significant amount of weight to an aircraft and having a “clean aircraft” is crucial to traveling safely. Operators are required to undergo adequate training to ensure proper operations, as mistakes can result in significant aircraft damage and flight cancellations.

SimiGon Inc. President and COO, Jack Sarnicki, said: "The successful completion of this project shows the maturity of our technology and our ability to adapt to multiple domains. Providing the Virtual Reality deicer trainer on-time and on-budget demonstrates our ability to efficiently deliver advanced, innovative and cost-effective training products to United States Air Force.”
